Many things: Most commonly it is dry eye syndrome . Try some lurk sting drops , they are over the counter.

Many possibilities: The 3 most common in my experience are dry eye, recurrent corneal erosions, and corneal abrasion. It is possible for more serious causes and likely should have this checked by an ophthalmologist, particularly if the pain is associated with blurry or decreased vision.
