Blood tests: You can usually follow the liver enzymes, which usually go down as the liver inflammation goes down (these are the ast, alt, alkaline phosphatase and bilirrubin). Also an ultrasound is a good tool to check the size of the liver, and see if swelling is going down, however the liver not always increases in size when it is inflammed. The gold standard is a liver biopsy, but it is an invasive test.
