No: Small amounts of red blood in stools after spine surgery are most likely the result of hemorrhoids due to constipation, which often follows spinal surgery and use of narcotic pain medication. Large amounts of blood should never be seen. Please contact your primary care physician or surgeon with new symptoms of blood in your stool.

Back surgery: It is not at normal to have blood in the stools after back surgery. If this persists more than a couple of days would suggest seeing your primary care for further workup.
