Low impact: Aquatics, body weight, or resistance bands/ tubing and/or biking. Aquatics allow you to perform body weight exercises, but being in water actually reduces the stress on your body due to buoyancy. Once you are able to perform body weight activities then look to add light resistance w/ bands/ tubing. Try this to see if your knee pain decreases.

Stop elliptical: Switch exercises or fitness routines to lower impact machines. Or take up another activity such as swimming. If your knee continues to bother you, seek out your pcp for possible referral to a knee specialist. Best of luck.
