Ideas : There are several things to think about, but probably the most common is dry eyes. Artificial tears used 4 to 6 times a day helps to alleviate this symptom. Other ideas require more of an exam. Eyelid inflammation, corneal surface diseases, viral diseases, some medications can exacerbate surface related pain, and some unusual neurological causes just to name a few. An exam will help to figure out.

It depends: May possible causes, but if it lasts a short time (seconds) most likely this is dry eye( most common). If the vision is not affected, you can try artificial tears or warm compresses over the closed eyes.
