Can i supplement my oxycodone pain management with morphine?

If ordered by MD: There is no reason why your doctor can not use these in combination. Do not add morphine or any other pain reliever to oxycodone with it being prescribed to you by a doctor. Doing it on your own could be disastrous.

Could be dangerous: If you are in such severe pain that oxycodone isn't helping, then you need to discuss this with your doctor. Combining different types of narcotics (pain meds) on your own could put you at risk of an overdose. More deaths occur from prescription narcotics being misused than from heroin or cocaine. Don't try to manage your own pain medications. Follow your doctor's advice!

Only with oversight: Mixing opioids can get you into big trouble since your body may metabolize each one differently. If you are on long-acting oxycodone, you may be prescribed fast-acting morphine for breakthrough pain, or others. Combining multiple short- or multiple long-acting meds of similar type is dangerous and ineffective. Don't manage on your own.

Why?: You must discuss this with your treating doctor. They both fall into the opiate class of compounds and both do nearly the same thing. Oxycodone does however have some more desirable properties and may have fewer negative side effects. Sometimes the two are given together, it really depends on the clinical picture.
