A member asked:

What could be causing severe pain in your hand and arm if you do not have a pinched nerve, but you do have sharp stabbing pain?

Nerve Problems: There does exist the possibility of having peripheral neuropathy. The neuropathy can be caused by either nerve entrapment or a metabolic disease process such as diabetes, among other less common etiologies.

Hand pain: Though you might not have a "pinched nerve" in your neck, you could have nerve problems in your arm, such as with carpal tunnel syndrome. Arthritis or vascular problems, as well as things like infections, tumors, or trauma/fractures, could also cause hand pain.
