Perhaps: One of the treatments for kidney stones involves increasing the flow through the kidneys, and water may help some, but an IV of saline (salt water) increases it much more. Drinking salt water is not usually well tolerated, but large volumes of oral or IV fluids that contain various salts and water may help if the stone is not attached or stuck in the ureter.
