Common, Also Careful: False positive & false negative are important but also complex issues, commonly dealt with in a simplistic manner. They only refer to one test showing consistency with something being present when some other test shows consistency with something not being present. Since medical industry about disease, not health, positive means obvious disease (bad), negative means without obvious disease (good).
