Depends: Sepsis is a serious illness with a mortality that is high. The elderly with multiple comorbidities have a higher mortality rate. With death occurring within days.

It varies: It depends on the source of the infection, the level of aggressive treatment that the body can tolerate, the level of target organ damage and the quality of person's life.
