Depends: This depends on many factors - what bug, how strong is the person's immune system, how quicky treatment was started, how many organs are involved, etc. Sometimes even severe cases of sepsis can be treated successfully with complete recovery. Other times we are not as lucky.

Depends: The overall death rate from sepsis is about 25-35%, how likely it is that a given elderly person will survive depends on a lot of factors including, how old, whether the person was relatively healthy prior to the infection, or if there were chronic illnesses like heart disease or copd, and the severity of illness now ( are other organs failing?) and a number of other factors.
