Depends on cause: You can have low platelets either because your body is consuming them too quickly or if your body is having problems producing them in the first place. Treatments depend on the cause. Without knowing this, it is impossible to suggest possible treatment regimens.

Possible ITP: Sounds as if the platelets have been chronically low for over 18 months. If the bone marrow was normal then you may have itp an autoimmune mediated low platelet count. I recommend you see a hematologist to confirm your diagnosis and begin appropriate therapy to raise the count toward a higher level.
