Not first choice: Opioids are not the first line treatment for dpn. Start with Lyrica (pregabalin) and/or cymbalta.

Addictive: It is addicitve and would try to avoid addicting medication for long term pain if there are alternatives? Narcotics are the answer in a long term problem only if other avenues have been exhausted. I try to avoid them because in the long term you have pain still but also added addiction. That is not a good combination.

Yes but...: Diabetic neuropathy is nerve damage and therefore can never be 100% restored. To improve and prevent further deterioration diet and exercise is the key. Keep blood sugars under control. Stop smoking (affects circulation to nerves) limit alcohol use which destroys nerves. Vit. B may levels should be checked and supplemented as required. Narcotics will mask the symptoms but won’t resolve the issue.
