First is just...: ...Redness; bubbles and skin coming off is 2nd degree. Both increase chances of skin cancer in the future; 2nd degree is also a concern for infection, dehydration, and scarring. Do try to protect your skin next time - high-spf lotion, uv-opaque clothes.

1st and 2nd burns: 2nd-degree burn when the first layer of skin has been burned through and the second layer of skin (dermis) also is burned, the injury is called a second-degree burn. Blisters develop, skin takes on an intensely reddened, splotchy appearance, there is severe pain and swelling. With a first degree burn there is redness and swelling but no blisters.
