Yes: The best way to understand the autonomic system is to change the word to "automatic". It controls things that our body needs to be in charge of like increasing the heart rate when we need to "flee or fight", sweating, shivering, how oily or dry our skin is as well as those things you mentioned. These are the result of years of genetic changes from evolution to improve the survival of our species.
