More symptom than dx: Croup is a collection of illnesses/events where a coughing child makes the "croup"noise when they cough hard & their rubbery airways vibrate. It is most common from 6mo to 6 yrs but rare after the airway firms up. Several different viruses can trigger the process & a rare asthma like spasmotic croup occurs in some. Discuss your situation with your dr. Recurrence doesn't mean bad lungs/immunity.

Croup: Croup is usually casued by a virus and is usually seen during the winter season. If a child has croup like symptoms during the wrong season or has recurrent croup, her/his airway may need to be evaluated by flexibel bronchoscopy to make sure that there are no structural abnormalities of the upper airway (congenital or acquired).
