Could be bursitis: Could have some bursitis that is aggravated with bumping that may respond well to anti-inflammatories. If it does not then seeing a physician and getting x-ray and possibly MRI evaluation is the next step.

Exam needed: Need this examined by md. There is not usually any nerve on top of knee which would swell when bumped. Most likely a local soft tissue hematoma or infection etc but could represent a growth, so see your doc and get this treated.

Hurt Yourself?: Given the bruising it sounds like you hurt yourself somehow. If so, it could be as small as a muscle bruise or it could be a contusion . I would see your doctor to decide if any future treatment is needed.
