Jaw cracking: Popping or clicking of the jaw upon opening usually indicates a partially displaced disc in the jaw joint. If it makes more of a cracking or grinding noise, that may mean the development of arthritis which can occur when the disc is displaced for a longer period of time. Manage it conservatively at first with a soft diet, moist heat and nsaid's. If this doesn't work, see a TMJ specialist.
