Either one is: Ok, but main thing is adequate drainage and mechanical cleansing, systemic antibiotics if necessary. Topical ointment is probably of much lesser significance. Ask your surgeon to be sure.

Wound care: Regular cleansing and use of topical antibiotics, along with use of nsaids may heal small affected areas. But larger or deeper wounds anywhere as well as any hand or facial wounds may require antibiotics by mouth & evaluation and management by pcp, er physician or specialist.
