A member asked:

Is a white blood count of 3.0 reason for concern?

Follow WBC=3k: A total white blood count (WBC) of 3000 or 3.0k is low, indeed. Most labs around the country report normal values 4.0--10k however the 'normal range' is an arbitrary cut -off embracing the 'extremes' of a normal statistical 'bell shaped curve' . So 3k can still be normal for you. However trends over time are most important and whether or not you have symptoms. Recheck <1 mo. W/'differential'.

Yes: Normal count is 4-11 thousand and 3.0 seems low. However, if you are otherwise healthy, it may be part of a natural variation. It would be prudent to see your doctor to rule out a pathological process.
