Very common: Most commonly this is cause by chronic chewing or biting your tongue, sometimes from grinding or clenching your teeth. This is very common it is best to have your dentist check the area to rule out any serious cause.

White stuff\tongue: If it is on both sides of your tongue and is not getting worse, it may well be from chronic irritation due to an unconscious tongue biting habit (are you are of that?) or an irritation from sharp edges of your teeth or fillings. However, there are also other conditions that may require treatment. In any case, see your dentist to confirm diagnosis and treat as appropriate and only if necessary.
