Location of pain: Achilles tendonitis involves pain along the achilles tendon especially at its attachment on the back of the heel bone. Plantar fasciitis involves pain on the bottom of the foot along the plantar fascia ligaments especially where they attach to the bottom of the heel bone.

Different areas: They are both an inflammation but the pain is in different areas of the foot. Achilles tendonitis is an inflammation of the achilles tendon which attaches to the back of the heel and will have pain usually at or near where the achilles attaches. Plantar fasciitis is an inflammation of the plantar fascia and will have pain on the bottom of the foot.

Different structures: Your achilles tendon is the structure that pulls your foot downward, and will usually be tender behind your ankle when you stand on your tip toes. Your plantar fascia is a structure in the sole of your foot that helps hold up your arch, and hurts most for the first few steps out of bed in the morning. Their treatments are different, so see your podiatrist for individual advice.
