No endorsement: This is not how medicine works and it definitely is out of bounds for this simple health application. There are too many variables for choosing the appropriate medication for a patient. Their history, their other medications, their diagnosis, etc all must be taken into account when choosing a medication. We often never use the words 'best' to describe medication but look for 'effective' drugs.

1 that works for you: "best medicine" for anxiety and depression varies with the individual. There are many possible medications, each with different attributes. Psychiatrists try to tailor treatments to the person, including psychotherapeutic options in conjunction w/meds. For the best recommendations tailored to you, have a thorough eval with a psychiatrist along with general health eval with your pcp.

My humble opinion: It depends on the type of anxiety. For generalized anxiety, i like to use Buspar (buspirone) for the anxiety and wellbutrin for the depression, this require two meds but avoids a lot of side effects from the ssri's. Otherwise, if you insist on 1 med, then Lexapro is best for generalized anxiety with depression, Paxil for panic with depression, ptsd/depression, Prozac for ocd/depression, luvox/sad/depression.
