Sprain: Would recommend a visit with her pcp or foot/ankle specialist to evaluate the injured ankle and review xrays and insure no fractures. Treatment should include rest and ice and immobilization, as well as elevation to control swelling.

Ice and elevation: No, initally would ice area with elevation and rest, it no better need to be seen by physician for examination and xrays.
