Yes, yes: There indeed is at least a partial hereditary basis for migraines - they certainly do tend to run in families. There is likely something that causes the affected nerve cells to be susceptible to the many triggers for migraines. And yes, abdominal migraines in younger children often are precursors of common migraine headaches during teen and adult life. Talk to doc about preventive meds and diet!

Migraines: We know that migraine problems do run in families although the exact causes remain unclear. Perhaps one of our pediatric neurologists can give you some more details. I would be interested in how the diagnosis was made?
