One Test not enough: There has to be more to the story than one test result. You doctor knows your body and weight and other medical conditions and the associate risks. If you are overweight and your doctor did not tell you how risky this is for developing diabetes then you are now fully warned. Getting to an ideal weight, eating a low carb high protein diet and getting regular exercise will help one avoid diabetes.

Hb a1c of 5.8: For people without diabetes, the normal range for the hemoglobin a1c (h) test is between 4% and 5.6%. Hemoglobin a1c levels between 5.7% and 6.4% indicate increased risk of diabetes, and levels of 6.5% or higher indicate diabetes. You need to speak to your physician (p) about any risk factors, obesity and/or lack of exercise you may be able to modify to get your h below 5.7. Your p knows you best.
