Depends on etiology: If nodules are related to malignancy then the radiation is minor concern versus issue of knowing disease free. If nodules are related to infection pet ct is usually not warranted. A regular diagnostic ct would be the usual follow up. The isotope part of pet ct and not the ct portion is the main contributor to radiation burden. You should ask physician ordering study the purpose of examination.

Not an issue.: The risk of radiation exposure is minimal, and certainly far less than the risk of letting a potential cancer go undiagnosed.
