Meet and falling for someone who has depression and alcoholism. bad idea?

I ask this question as we are often attracted to people where we familiar with the dynamics, even if we are uncomfortable. We naturally avoid situations that are both unfamiliar and uncomfortable. Letting familiarity guide our choices can lead to unhealthy co-dependent relationships. Proceed with caution.
