Specializes in Thoracic Surgery

Yes: In the chest, it's not laparoscopy/laparoscopically, it's called thoracoscopy. Specialized cardiac surgeons do heart bypass and heart valve surgery thoracoscopically at specialized centers daily. Midcab (minimally-invasive direct coronary artery bypass grafting) and tecab (totally endoscopic coronary artery bypass grafting). http://goo.gl/w8gmtb.

Yes sort of: There have been been several techniques developed to do minimally invasive coronary bypass surgery. Midcab involves a small left chest incision and bypasses to the front and left of heart on a beating heart. Some have done the same with robotic technology and small incisions. Popular now is hybrid procedure where a graft is done to front of heart and other arteries are stented.
