Clot: A dry socket is the result of the breakdown of the blood clot. Food can become lodged in the socket and a lump of something can come out. If a dentist has seen you about the dry socket, he could have placed a treatment packing in the socket and it could have come out. If the pain has subsided, do not be concerned. It will ultimately heal.
