Dry Socket: Generally develops in the first 24-48 hours after the extraction. If you follow all the PO instructions you should not have a problem. As the socket matures and heals you will need to continue rinsing as the socket heals from the bottom up and if food gets trapped it can be uncomfortable. check with your dentist to be sure.

Few days to weeks: If a dry socket develops, the time frame may depend upon the type of surgery/extraction performed; your post extraction home care, and the sterility of the procedure. Not everyone gets, but if you do, see the dentist/oral surgeon quickly.
