Dry socket: A dry socket is the result of an extraction site not forming a clot, and is extremely painful. This will happen within 1-2 days after the extraction. If you have had no serious pain for a week, then you do not have a dry socket. If you are having discomfort a week after an extraction, return to your surgeon to have the area examined.

Yes, it is possible: It is possible to develop a dry socket after one week, but it is on the late side. See your surgeon/dentist for post-op eval.
