what happens when you take expired valtrex (valacyclovir)?

Expired Valtrex (valacyclovir): It is never a good idea to take medications that are expired. However, with a vast majority of medications, it should be noted that the expiration date on the package does not mean the product is rendered useless the day after the expiration date. If within a few days of the expiration date, i suggest contacting your pharmacist for an opinion.

Valacyclovir TO WORK: How long does it take valacyclovir to work? For what? Cold sores? Genital herpes? Shingles (herpes zoster)? It varies with the disease, with the length of time you had it, and how severe it is.
Ask your dermatologist.

Probably nothing: All medicines degrade with time. Just cause it expired doesn't mean its poisonous. Just won't work as well as unexpired medicine. Actually, it really depends on how old the medicine is. If its relatively soon after the expiration date, i'm sure its still good. All bets are off its over a year past.

Time: The lesions will go away by themselves and will take only slightly longer if not treated. By the way, the medicine you refer to makes the lesions only slightly less painful (if any at all) than no treatment at all.
