Levodopa is ineffective in drug induced parkinsonism, why?

Stop the drug.: Levo dopa is ineffective because it is not true parkinson's disease-it shares some features but not all. The treatment is to stop the drug that is causing the problem and symptoms will improve dramatically.

A few reasons: First there are two different drug induced parkinsons. Acutely (in which case just stop the drug), and chronically (tardive dyskinesia...TD). TD is generally in those with psychosis. Levodopa can make that worse. Bad. AND, Levodopa has been associated with more rapid progression in regular Parkinsons, so we dont like to use it in anyone if we can avoid it.
