Probably normal: Swelling of the elbow, wrist, and hand is common after humerus fractures. The swelling typically pools "downstream." best to elevate the hand and wrist when possible or speak with your treating physician if it persists.

An arm fracture: Such as the humerus lead to swelling. The hand and wrist are "downstream " from the humerus, especially if you have been in a sling or had the elbow and hand less active and dependent.( i.e. Hanging down). Activity of the hand helps pump blood and fluid out of it. Making a fist, ask your doctor if you can come out of the sling or at least put a pillow on your abdomen and elevate the hand.
