A member asked:

I was very over stimulated on ivf drugs, and oestrogen through the roof. could this have caused my thyroid cancer? lump appeared after ivf.

No: High estrogen levels do not cause thyroid cancer. Although the 2events happened at around the same time, one didn't cause the other. Good luck with your treatment.

Not a cause / effect: Based on a knowledge of the physiology of hormone production and feedback involving the pituitary gland (which controls the ovaries and thyroid gland), i can think of no plausible connections between the two. Nor can i find evidence of an increased risk of ivf in advanced fertility patients. You should ask the same question of your fertility doctor too!
