Generally Not Good: Extended bed rest frequently leads to continuing problems with the deconditioning that takes place. Ask your doc to refer you to physical therapy, if he thinks that would be ok. If not possible, consider using ice packs to the back, some local modalities such as electrical muscle stimulation, therapeutic exercise, even a short course (one or two weeks) of chiropractic.

Curious: Are you sure they recommended 2 weeks of bed rest? Consider visiting a rehab doctor, a chiropractor, a physical therapist, a spine surgeon... Not sure that any of them would have recommended such a long period to be in bed. Is there anything more that precludes you from being active?
