Spine surgery: Choking is not normal, but the swelling of surgery can give people the sensation of a lump in the throat. It usually goes away with time. If the choking is persistent, talk to your surgeon.

See answer: Immediately after surgery, this can be normal, but if the feelings persist, it may need to be evaluated. To keep "continuity of care" your surgeon would want to know your concerns, and they would be best (since they did the surgery-know the approach they took, etc) to answer and assess your symptoms at a follow-up appt. To your surgery. Good luck.

Depends how long: This can be normal if it is recent after the surgery as the swelling can cause these issues, especially if it was an anterior approach. If you are further out then a month, you could have some nerve damage that could be affecting your swallowing and this should be assessed by your neurosurgeon. If you are coming or aspirating, this can lead to severe complications like pneumonia.
