Please see below: Many times, cervical fusion are performed via anterior neck approach, short term swallowing problem and choking are common. See an ENT doctor for laryngeal examination to r/o vocal cord weakness.

Spine surgery: Choking is not normal, but the swelling of surgery can give people the sensation of a lump in the throat. It usually goes away with time. If the choking is persistent, talk to your surgeon.
