24 to 36 hours!: My official office post extraction directions advise my patients to wait at least 24 to 36 hours before they can start rinsing with warm salt water. Because your extraction site needs an intact blood clot to heal, all precautions must be taken to protect that clot. No rinsing, excess activity, smoking, drinking thru a straw and a soft diet are all important until healing is firmly under way!
