No smoking...: The single most important thing for COPD patients to do is to stop smoking. This will decrease the amount of airway inflammation and will thus slow the progression of this incurable disease and decrease symptoms including shortness of breath, cough, wheezing, etc.

Precautions withCOPD: Also get vaccinated against flu every year and against pneumonia every 5 years. Avoid to get the flu. Avoid exposure to any toxic inhaled particles. Take your inhalers or breathing treatments on schedule .Notify your dr as soon as you get worst from your shortness of breath or if you have fever or more phlegm and more cough.
