No single answer: The appropriate anesthetic is determined after a history and physical and other tests (pulm functn, blood gas, etc). It is the severity of the illness and the organ reserve that will determine how someone fares with an anesthetic whether its a ga or a spinal or something else. The more severe the COPD the more likely to stay clear of ga if possible but not always the case and not alway possible.
