New pdoc rxd xanax (alprazolam) er 1mg every 6hr as needed. took @ 1pm. ok to take 1mg klonopin (older rx) @ 9pm, or bad mix? (can't sleep full night w/ xanax (alprazolam) er)

Mixing is bad: Your physician prescribed those medications with the intention of you taking only those medications. Both Xanax (alprazolam) and klonopin are in the same class of medications and could cause an overdose. Absolutely do not take those medications at the same time without your doctor knowing. This could result in death from respiratory depression secondary to benzodiazepine overdose.
