Ask your provider.: A five-week-old baby is so new! check with your doctor about this. They may want to see your baby 'in person' and assess what kind of cut this is, and whether further care is needed.

Be careful: Over-the-counter neosporin oinment is formulated for skin, not the eye, so it can be irritating if it gets in the eye. If the cut is close to the eye, see the eye doctor and get a prescription for an ophthalmic antibiotic ointment.
