Many possibilities : There are taste buds all over the tongue and sometimes people mistake them for an abnormality, when it is normal. Other bumps can be from the teeth causing creases or just normal lymph tissue on the back of the tongue causing an irregularity. Many people are nervous because they are unfamiliar with what they are seeing. See an otolaryngologist for evaluation. Problems are possible, but rare.

Tongue bumps: Most bumps on the tongue are taste buds and some can become inflamed. Also, if you clench your teeth at night you may see a scalloped appearance along the border. If this is a new bump, different from the rest, see your dentist to give you peace of mind.
