Bone formation: Usually callus or new bone formation around fracture site occurs. The fracture line become less distinct. Beginning bone reaction (periosteal) in adult usually takes about 10 days. The bone eventually solidifies and remodels around the fracture. Complete healing can take several weeks, sometimes months.

Bone callus: You might see what's called bone callus around the fracture site. This is good and bad. It's good because it's the body's way to form a splint around the bone and help it heal. It's bad because it means the fracture is moving; too much movement can delay/stop healing. Fracture lines on x-ray can last for months/years. Usually, we go more by how you feel; no pain or swelling-it's probably healed .
