Is the next step colposcopy if you have an abnormal pap smear?

Depends: There are various grades of abnormalities in pap smears. Mild abnormality, especially if you are hpv negative, may be followed by repeat pap. More severe abnormality may prompt colposcopy and biopsy. Follow your doctor's advice.

Depends: The recommendation for colposcopy depends on the specific pap result as well as the age of the patient and in some cases hpv status. In many cases, a repeat pap smear at 6 months is appropriate.
