Could Be Anything: In your medical hx you state a cough, a chronic cough or violent cough, could cause a sore throat. Possibly the timing of the "check stretching" with your tongue, just so happens to coincide with foodstuff caught in your tonsils (if you still have them), called cryptic tonsils. Again, if it persists for more than 2-3 days and/or gets worse, please go see your dmd or ENT for a visual exam.

Have tonsils checked: Your tonsils are in the back of your throat approximately where the sides of your tongue attach. They are formed with many small pockets that can collect food debris and at times they can be inflamed due to this. Have your physician check it out.
