5-7 days: Severe post operative pain should last no more than 7 days. Usually a patient who has undergone a bunoinectomy should take their pain medication every 4-6 hours for the first 24-48 hours to stay on top of the pain. After the first 48 hours the pain should be considerably reduced and pain medication is usually taken as needed.

Varies greatly. : Unfortunately, yes, recovering from surgery can be painful, but the more you elevate after surgery, the less you swell, and the less you swell, the less you hurt. Your surgeon will give you a boot or shoe, and pain medication, too: don't worry, they're not out to torture you. We make sure you have the tools to be as comfortable as possible in the weeks after surgery!
