Depends on: What type of infection. Is it fungal? Is it bacterial? Bacterial usually starts with a portal od entry like a cut or similar then bacteria gets in. Either case see someone before it gets serious.

Soft corn: Very commonly, people develop a soft corn between the 4th and 5th toes. This is caused by bones of each toe pressing against one another while wearing shoes. A build up of hard skin forms as a result. Due to perspiration in the area, the skin breaks down (macerates) allowing an infection to develop.

FUNGUS/BACTERIAL: This is a very common location for this problem. It usually starts as a fungal infection, but can evolve into a bacterial infection. Keep the area dry; povidone-iodine solution works well. If there's a corn, don't use OTC acid patches. Have a podiatrist trim it. If diabetic, have someone help you check between your toes and don't self-treat; see your podiatrist! Sincerely, Dr. Latva
